Santa Shoebox Project – SRS South Africa Gives Back

Each year the Santa Shoebox Project collects and distributes personalized gifts of essential items and treats for underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia. The majority of the children that are supported in this project  have never received anything new in their lives, never mind a Christmas present and some days you even go to bed without eating anything at all. Over half of the children (51.0%) in South Africa live in households where their consumption is below the poverty line. That was before COVID19.

SRS South Africa decided to make this our 3rd Quarter Social Responsibility project. The staff generously pledged to donate boxes and together with a corporate donation from SRS South Africa, we were able to pledge a total of 83 gifts this year! The Cayman Office jumped on board when they heard about this and an additional 45 boxes were pledged by Cayman staff members! Bringing the total to 128 boxes pledged for 2021!

We are truly grateful for the generosity of our SRS staff! The ESG Committee did A LOT of shopping (sweets, clothes, stationery, toys and toiletry items) and the shop owners were delighted with our bulk purchases. This has been a huge boost for our local shops especially after challenging times over the last two years. The South African volunteers then met, packed & decorated all the boxes. The gifts are being handed over to the various schools during November and early December.

We wish to extend our gratitude and appreciation to all staff who pledged and helped with this project. What a pleasure to experience the joy of giving and bless some needy children this festive season!
